A partner in the law firm Kennyhertz Perry LLC, Kansas City native John Kennyhertz advises clients on several complex legislative packages, including the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, as well as compliance issues related to such federal agencies as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission. He and his partner, Braden Perry, have positioned their partnership as a boutique law firm handling litigation and other legal issues faced by enterprises in highly regulated industries. John Kennyhertz is also proficient with respect to issues of Native American law, including tribal corporate structure and tribal law.
Prior to forming Kennyhertz Perry in early 2013, John Kennyhertz served as general counsel for a Kansas City based private equity firm for which he handled all legal issues except for real estate matters. His responsibilities included monitoring the various entities in the company’s portfolio with respect to risk management and regulatory compliance. Prior to joining the private equity firm, Kennyhertz belonged to the legal staff at the MacFarlane Group, a broadly diversified holding company.
John Kennyhertz earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Kansas. He studied law at the Washburn University School of Law, where he belonged to the Trial Team and served as a student instructor for Contracts I and II. He earned his JD in 2005.
